At Least Three Mixed-Users Headed For Sad West LA Stretch
Big changes are coming to a sad stretch of West LA—there are three (or possibly four) nearly-adjacent mixed-users all planned along just a few blocks of Santa Monica Boulevard. Developer CIM Group has snapped up two parcels just west of Barrington Avenue that until recently housed the Buerge car dealership and has preliminary plans for a four-story mixed-user with 157 units on the site between Granville and Westgate Avenues (they haven’t released info on what they’re doing at the other parcel). Another dilapidated property just west of the former dealership, meanwhile, is set to get a 39-unit, four-story mixed-user, according to Building Los Angeles. Then there’s the former Vons grocery store at Santa Monica and Barrington Avenue, which was recently torn down with promises of a new Pavilions. That plan is now dead, however, but a replacement project is on the way.
Safeway, recently purchased by Albertsons, just sold the Vons parcel to developer United Property Management. UPM’s Jeff Appel says it’s too early to discuss what’s in store, but says he hopes to build something the community wants (maybe a mixed-user with grocery store?) and that he’s excited to build on this stretch of Santa Monica Bouelvard, which he says has long been underused.
